Awards
The Religious and Moral Education Council considers worthy recipients for three awards given at the discretion of the executive committee:
Dr Peter Craigie Mentorship/Leadership Award
Recognizes service of an individual who has contributed to the professional growth of RMEC members. (One recipient per year)
Peter Craigie d. 1985) was Vice-president Academic at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where he had also been a professor of Religious Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities. He is the author of The Problem of War in the Old Testament and The Book of Deuteronomy in the New International Commentary on the Old Testament.

Guidelines for Nomination of Candidates
Candidate(s) must be nominated by an ATA member before May 25.

- In your email when nominating your candidate(s), please provide the following information: Is your candidate:
a. Currently or in the past an Active ATA member
b. Involved in nurturing teachers’ moral, ethical and spiritual lives e.g. Faith Development Days, staff retreats, RMEC Annual Conferences, Teachers’ Conventions etc.
c. Currently or in the past, an active member of the Religious & Moral Education Council - Provide three letters of support (max 250 words in PDF document format) from three different nominators giving examples of his/her ongoing of commitment/leadership to/in nurturing teachers’ lives morally, ethically and spiritually in her/his school, school district and provincially. Letters are due on June 8.
- State outstanding distinguished service in contributing to the professional growth of RMEC members.
- Provide pictures (minimum 3) of the candidate - one portrait of the candidate only and two others if possible in the school setting.
- State name of nominator(s), school/City, email address and day/night phone number.
- The awards committee will be in contact between June 10-15, and recipients will be notified between June 15-20.
William Hrychuk Lifetime Achievement Award
The council’s highest award is honorary life membership presented to an individual in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinguished service in religious studies and moral education in the province of Alberta.

recognize exemplary classroom teaching, leadership and/or service in the field of religious and moral education while demonstrating the values of Faith, Dignity, Respect or Collaboration RMEC’s Award of Merit - Faith
Recognizes an individual who exemplifies commitment to faith through outstanding witness in the classroom, school and community.
RMEC’s Award of Merit - Dignity
Recognizes an individual who “go the extra mile” in valuing students, colleagues, staff and parents.
RMEC’s Award of Merit – Respect
Recognizes the commitment, zest and passion of an individual who continually instils consideration or thoughtfulness in his/her classroom, school.
Dawn Kirvan Award - Collaboration
Recognizes a collaborative team whose project demonstrates the valves of Faith, Dignity and Respect.
Recognizes an individual who exemplifies commitment to faith through outstanding witness in the classroom, school and community.
